Midcoast Federal Credit Union is committed to protecting the privacy of each Member's financial information consistent with state and federal laws. Midcoast Federal Credit Union will take prudent and reasonable measures to safeguard the accuracy and privacy of all Member information, including but not limited to information used while conducting business with the Credit Union in person, via the
internet, over ATM networks, wire services, telephone, the U.S. Mail and other means of communication. Midcoast Federal Credit Union collects and maintains information about our Members only as we deem necessary for business purposes.
Midcoast Federal Credit Union's bylaws require that the Credit Union's officers, directors, members of committees and employees hold in confidence all transactions of the Credit Union with its Members and all information respecting its Members' personal affairs, except where otherwise required or as permitted by state and federal law.
We may provide information to affiliates and third-party vendors or partners for the purpose of providing competitive products and services to our Members. In those cases where we disclose information to third parties, we require that those third parties use it for no purposes other than providing those services to our Members.
We do not sell or otherwise provide Member information to third parties that do not have a business relationship with the Credit Union. We will inform our Members as required by NCUA Regulations how to exercise their choice to keep their information from being provided to third parties and we will take all reasonable steps to ensure that Members' choices are honored.
Midcoast Federal Credit Union maintains strong security controls to ensure the security and confidentiality of our Members' information, to protect against any anticipated threats or hazards to the security or integrity of this information and to protect against unauthorized access to or use of this information.
If you have questions regarding this Privacy Policy, you may contact us by email at

Midcoast Federal Credit Union recognizes the importance our Members place on privacy and the security of their personal information. Our goal is to protect your personal information in every way that we interact with you, including on the Internet.
We think it is important for you to be informed of the policies, procedures, and security measures we have in place that safeguard your personal and confidential information. We have developed this policy statement to help you to understand the steps we take to protect your personal information while conducting business with us.
The Midcoast Connection is designed to be convenient and easy to use. Working with our providers of these services, we've established many safeguards to preserve and protect the way you do business with us online. These measures -- detailed here -- allow us to ensure your identity when you access our online services and protect your information as it travels over the Internet to and from your computer.
Server Security
Combining the latest secure socket (SSL) technology with a strong server firewall, we can assure you a safe, private session while you access our online financial services. Online transactions between you and the Midcoast Connection are all encrypted. Encryption is the process of scrambling information (typically for data transmission) so that it can only be reassembled in its original clear text format by someone who has the correct encryption key to do so.
Firewalls are like selective barriers that only let authorized users through the Credit Union's system -- and into certain accounts.
Communicating with the Midcoast Connection server via a secure browser and the proper combination of access codes provides the technology to encrypt information as you send it to us, which only we can decrypt. Likewise, when we send personal or account information to you, the technology encrypts it, which then only you can decrypt. Security encryption verifies server/message authentication, privacy encryption and data integrity to a 128-bit key. Additional protection is provided by the Midcoast Connection firewall.
The following browsers are supported:
Once the password is established (to help gain access to Midcoast Connection), the user is encouraged to change the password in the Midcoast Connection system to something that is easily remembered. To enhance user convenience of the Midcoast Connection system, there is no requirement to change passwords on a recurring basis. But changing your Midcoast Connection password within the Midcoast Connection system on a regular basis is recommended to deter password fraud.
To further protect users and their accounts, additional security features include:
- A "blocked" feature to prevent access after three unsuccessful logon attempts;
- A "timeout" feature to automatically log users out of service sessions after an extended period of inactivity.
To further protect your password, the credit union recommends you select something that is easy for you to remember, but hard for anyone (even people who know you) to guess. Avoid using significant dates (i.e., anniversary, and birthday), phone number or extensions, or even street addresses.
External 3rd Party Links
We do offer links to other 3rd party sites. These links to external third parties are offered as a courtesy and a convenience to our Members. Midcoast Federal Credit Union is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such web sites' service providers.
Third party merchants may collect personal information from you when you visit their sites. For example, they collect personal information from you when you provide billing information or send them an email. Some third party merchants may also send you a cookie to collect data on your Internet usage and preferences. When you click on advertisements at third party sites, the advertising company may also send you a cookie.
The Midcoast Federal Credit Union does NOT have access to the information collected by any third party, nor can we control how they use this information. As a general rule, you should always look for and review a site's privacy policy before giving out any personal information.
If you have questions or concerns about the privacy policies and practices of these third parties, please review their websites and contact them directly. Midcoast Federal Credit Union assumes no responsibility for the content, safety, security, or privacy of any such site or any transactions you conduct through them.
Internet Protocol (IP) Addresses
An IP address is a number that's automatically assigned to your computer whenever you're on the Internet. Web servers, the computers that "serve up" Web pages, automatically identify your computer by its IP address. We do not link IP addresses to anything personally identifiable, which means that a user's session will be logged, but the user remains anonymous to us.
What is a Cookie?
A cookie is a very small text file sent by a web server and stored on your hard disk in your browser so that it can be read back later. Cookies cannot "read" information about you from your computer or be used to "steal" information about you; cookies don't carry viruses; and cookies are not programs that can perform functions on your computer.
Cookies are a basic way for a server to identify you (most cookies actually identify the computer you happen to be using at the time, not you personally), and cookies are used for many things from personalizing start up pages to facilitating online purchases. Cookies do perform a very important function when you engage in secure Internet transactions. The cookies used in our internet system are described below.
Website Visitors
Visitors to our website remain anonymous. We do not collect unique identifying information about you unless you voluntarily and knowingly provide us that information, such as when you send us an email or complete an application online. If you provide us this information, it is only used internally and in furtherance of the purpose for which it was provided. Midcoast Federal Credit Union does not send website visitors a "cookie"; however, if you connect to the Midcoast Connection, Synergent (our online service provider), will send you a cookie for security purposes.

- Information about your transactions with us and others;
- Information we receive from a consumer-reporting agency; and
- Information that is generated when you contact us electronically.
We offer secure email through the Midcoast Connection. You should use the secure mail service anytime you send us sensitive personal information.
Our online service provider, Synergent, has also developed security policies and procedures to protect our members' information that they must collect and maintain to help us process your online transactions.
