The Maine Credit Union League is issuing a
Fraud Alert
to make credit unions aware of suspicious activity that has been reported.
Several credit unions have reported that staff and/or members have received
the TWO SCAMS below:
TEXT Scam!!
Several credit union
members have received a text message stating that their account is frozen
and instructing them to call a phone number. The text message states it's
from "@cume.org".
This is a scam.
VISA Scam!!
Dear VISA Card Holder,
A recent review of your transaction history
determined that your card was used at an ATM located in Guam, but for
security reasons the requested transaction was refused. ! You need to
complete the VISA Card Holder Form. You can do this by clicking the link
below:

REMINDER! Never give your social security number, date of birth, account or password information electronically or over the phone. If you receive a verification request like the one above, close out the e-mail or hang up the phone. Call the number you have on file for that creditor or financial institution. They can validate any request and assist you personally.
